Mijas Costa covering some 12 kilometres of coastline stretches from Fuengirola to the West and Calahonda to the East incorporates :- El Faro, La Cala, Riviera del Sol and Calahonda is one of the biggest principalities on the Costa de l Sol.
Just as Mijas village is serenity, tradition and culture, so Mijas Costa equals that magic combination of sun, sand and seasports.
The beaches at La Cala have been awarded the "Blue Flag" as among the best in the province and are geared to provide action: jet skis, water skiing and parasending are all on the go. Be sure to check out the chiringuito charm here too, where you can sample a variety of Spanish seafood eaten with the favourite holiday drink, tinto verano: ordinary red wine topped up with casera (lemonade).
The Mijas municipality covers an impressive 148 sq km and includes two major urbanisations.
Sitio de Calahonda known as the English village in Spain is the largest property development you will find between Marbella and Fuengirola. In fact, this neighbourhood has grown so successfully that it could qualify as a town. However, residents have been unsuccessful in their attempts to separate it from Mijas.
While the vast majority of Calahonda's 600,000 square metres is devoted to villas, townhouses and space for four golf courses, selected areas have been dedicated to providing residents with every amenity imaginable. There are, therefore, three commercial centres which house most of the development's 45 restaurants, cafeterias and pubs as well as seven banks, several supermarkets and a wide variety of other businesses including: hardware, furniture, garden supply, travel agencies, car hire, car repair, property management and much more.
The nearby Riviera del Sol is similarly inviting and popular among foreigners, particularly the large commercial centre with its bar, telephone booths and grocery store combined. The sports centre is also well equipped and includes an 18 hole golf course and thriving tennis club.
